Deputies made a big bust shortly before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, recovering dozens of stolen items and multiple types of drugs.
They spotted a vehicle with windows tinted illegally dark. When they checked the license plate, they learned the vehicle had been reported stolen. The driver fled when they tried to stop the car but eventually wrecked while taking the N.E. Antioch Road exit from I-35. The driver tried to run, but our deputies were faster and got him into custody.
Inside the vehicle, deputies located driver's licenses, passports and social security cards belonging to 22 different people, checkbooks belonging to four different people, six checks totaling more than $3,460, credit or debit cards belonging to 10 different people as well as dozens of preloaded debit cards. They also found a handgun and several different types of drugs, including powdered fentanyl, meth and scheduled prescription pills. Michael Bennett, 49, has now been charged with resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance. Investigation is continuing.
