Deputies help apprehend man who carjacked Amazon van, fired at law enforcement

A scary situation involving shots fired at deputies and Kansas City Missouri Police officers, a carjacked Amazon delivery van, and a kidnapped delivery driver came to a safe conclusion Friday evening thanks to several law enforcement agencies.

Just before 7:30 p.m. Sept. 27, deputies heard a KCPD officer call for assistance over the radio after they had been shot at trying to stop a suspected domestic violence suspect near NE 116th Street and N. Stark Avenue. The suspect then ran from the area and carjacked an Amazon delivery van, holding the driver hostage.

Deputies joined KCPD in pursuit of the van. After it got onto southbound I-35, the suspect fired at deputies and officers. Fortunately, no one was struck. Liberty Police successfully deployed Stop Sticks, forcing the van to come to a stop just north of Pleasant Valley Road. The suspect ran from the van, while the kidnapped driver exited to safety with deputies.

Deputies and KCPD officers ran after the suspect. A Clay County deputy located the suspect in the 9100 block of NE 73rd Street and took him into custody without incident. He turned him over to KCPD, which is investigating the incident.

William Robinson, 47, faces multiple charges. He is currently in the Clay County Detention Center on a $5 million bond.
